OVERVIEW
This one-day course will provide the participant with a broad overview of the physical principles and clinical background of cardiovascular MR imaging (CMR). The course consists of 8 one-hour blocks providing clinical background and what clinicians want from a cardiovascular MR study, followed by acquisition and post-processing strategies. Each topic is concluded by a lecture on research promises on the edge of clinical implementation. The following topics will be covered:
Recent developments in MR hard- and software relevant to CMR;
Cardiac function;
Perfusion;
Myocardial tissue characterization;
Evaluation of flow;
3T cardiac MR; and
CMR in clinical trials and magnetic resonance angiography.
Course instructors are PhD’s and MD’s.
 
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
Describe the physical principles of commonly used cardiovascular MR techniques;
Explain recent technical developments in the field of cardiovascular MR and how these developments (may eventually) impact clinical care; and
Appropriately use CMR in clinical trials involving cardiovascular diseases.
 
AUDIENCE DESCRIPTION
The course is designed for both scientists and physicians with interest in cardiovascular MR, current users of cardiovascular MR, with little or basic knowledge of cardiovascular MR. The content of the course is appropriate for radiologists, cardiologists and basic researchers interested in cardiovascular imaging in academic and public service.
