SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate-Advanced |
Sunday, 6 May 2012 |
OVERVIEW |
This one-day
course will cover the basics of MR and cellular contrast media,
including chemical structure and MR physical properties, as well as
potential emerging clinical applications of contrast agents.
Specifically, the following topics will be covered: |
Contrast agent structure and MR physical properties; |
Contrast agent safety; |
Contrast agent cost and regulation; |
Contrast tracer kinetics; |
Iron oxides and paramagnetic nanoparticles; |
Cellular Labeling; and |
CEST Agents and hyperpolarized agents. |
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES |
Upon completion
of this course participants should be able to: |
Describe structure and physical properties of
pre-clinical and clinical MR contrast agents; |
Evaluate safety and risks of MR contrast agents; |
Describe the approval and regulation processes for
MR contrast agents; |
Explain current models and applications of MR
contrast tracer kinetics; |
Describe structure and potential usage of iron
oxides and paramagnetic nanoparticles; and |
List and explain current uses of cellular labeling,
CEST and hyperpolarized agents. |
AUDIENCE
DESCRIPTION |
This
course is designed for intermediate to advanced chemists and
physicists with an interest in molecular imaging, clinical
MRI and drug trials. No particular experience is needed, and
current work may include lab or research environment, drug
trials. |
