Joint Annual Meeting ISMRM-ESMRMB 2014 10-16 May 2014 Milan, Italy

WEEKDAY EDUCATIONAL COURSE
Neurodegenerative Disease & Movement Disorders
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to Advanced
ORGANIZERS: Maria A. Rocca, M.D. & Norbert Schuff, Ph.D.
Monday, 12 May 2014

OVERVIEW
Neurodegenerative disorders are both personally devastating and increasingly common in the population worldwide. This session will provide an overview of the molecular underpinnings and current theories of neurodegeration and advanced imaging approaches used for research, diagnosis, and treatment.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Scientists, neurologists, neuroradiologists, movement disorder specialists, and physicists interested in an integrated understanding of neurodegenerative diseases and relevant MRI methods.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the early molecular and clinical correlates in neurodegenerative disease;
  • Compare mechanisms in Parkinson Disease, Amyotrphic Lateral Sclerosis, and Huntington Disease;
  • Evaluate the role of advanced imaging techniques in the earliest stages of neurodegeneration; and
  • Harness the potential for effective therapy through earlier disease detection.
