Overview
This Symposium was proposed by the High Field Systems & Applications study group. Ultra-high field MR (UHF-MR) is moving forward at an amazing speed. This progress is increasingly the result of constructive collaborations between basic scientists and clinical researchers. Technical solutions can allow new clinical questions to be asked and answered, but as often it is clinical curiosity that drives the technical development. Successful collaborations have already resulted in hundreds of patients worldwide being helped by UHF-MR scans. For example, with the advancement of motion correction methods, imaging sequences and novel techniques for RF management, epilepsy surgery can now be planned with greater certainty, deep brain stimulator electrodes placed with higher accuracy, and outcome of breast tumor treatment be predicted, all to the benefit of individual patients. This Member-Initiated Symposium will highlight and further encourage the crucial interplay between basic and clinical scientists that allows us to reach the untapped potential of UHF in clinical applications. The theme of the MIS is thus well aligned with the core mission of the High Field Systems and Applications SG: to advance clinical UHF applications and the technological solutions that enable them. The program will showcase technological developments that increase the availability and accessibility of UHF MRI applications. It will also show the clinical applications that benefit from or even require these developments, and how these will impact disease understanding and patient care.
Target Audience
Clinicians, basic scientists, engineers, and translational researchers interested in clinical UHF applications.
Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: - Describe current and emerging clinical applications for UHF MRI; - Explain how these diseases and methods stand to gain from UHF MRI; - Name technological advances that were necessary to realize the clinical applications presented; and - Identify existing platforms and opportunities to form new collaborations along the basic - clinical research axis.
