Session Number: MIS-17
Parent Session: Motion in Minors Is No Small Thing

Session Number:MIS-17

Organizers

Overview
This Symposium was proposed by the Pediatric MR study group. Motion is a consistent challenge in pediatric MRI, limiting its effectiveness or requiring anesthesia for MR examination to achieve desired image quality. This MIS on motion compensation strategies in various areas of pediatric MR imaging will be an educational symposium for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners. It will include a combination of talks by clinical radiologists highlighting motion-related issues faced in clinical practice and talks by researchers to discuss the newest techniques and approaches to address this particular challenge. While some of the talks will set the background for the needs and challenges of motion in the pediatric population, others will cover specific solutions to mitigate the effects of motion on image quality, which include patient preparation, acquisition strategie and post-processing methodologies.
Additionally, the proposed symposium is a part of the ongoing collaboration between Pediatric Study Group of ISMRM and MRI committee of the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR). The featured speakers will be drawn from the members of both groups.

Target Audience
Radiologists, MR physicists, MR technologists, radiology trainees, fellows, and residents.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: - Explain mechanisms of MR image degradation caused by various types of motion in children; - Discuss available techniques for motion compensation in MRI in children; and - Identify future directions in motion compensation pediatric MRI.
