SMRT HOME STUDIES

Anne M. Sawyer, B.S., R.T. (R)(MR)
Editor, SMRT Home Studies

“Comprehensive, high quality, yet reasonably priced MRI anatomy atlases are not always readily available. We are, therefore, pleased to provide this Abdominal MRI Atlas for your reference. A reliable approach for many to retain anatomical information is to have the atlas material present at the MRI scanner for convenient reference.”
We are pleased to present the SMRT Educational Seminars, Volume 15, Number 4: “MRI Atlas of the Abdomen.” This is the 58th accredited home study developed by the SMRT, exclusively for SMRT members.

Comprehensive, high quality, yet reasonably priced MRI anatomy atlases are not always readily available. We are, therefore, pleased to provide this Abdominal MRI Atlas for your reference. In addition to the printed format, this atlas, as with our previously published atlases, will be available in pdf format to download to your cell phone and other electronic devices.

A special thank you to Kelly Baron, Past President of the SMRT, for contributing the text for this home study and acting as a quiz and image reviewer. Thanks much to Kevin Epperson, R.T.(R)(MR) for acquiring the abdominal MR images for this home study and to Lewis Shin, M.D., for acting as the Expert Reviewer providing all anatomic labeling. These anatomical atlases require a significant contribution of time to create and guarantee the highest quality. Completion of the accompanying quiz provides the assigned continuing education credits.

Thanks also to Heidi Berns, M.S., R.T.(R)(MR), FSMRT, Chair of the SMRT RCEEM Ad-hoc committee from Coralville, Iowa, USA and all those who participate on this committee by reviewing the home studies for accreditation. Finally, thanks to Jennifer Olson, Associate Executive Director; Sally Moran, Director of Electronic Communications; Allison Barbour, Electronic Communications Coordinator; Mary Keydash, Publications Director; Linda O-Brown, SMRT Coordinator; and the entire staff in the Berkeley, California, USA office of the ISMRM and SMRT for their insight and long hours spent supporting these educational symposia.

We would also like to thank John Wilkie and all of the individuals at Invivo Corporation (Philips Healthcare) who generously support our home studies program. Their continuing investment advances technologist and radiographer knowledge and brings quality continuing education to the SMRT membership worldwide.

Changes in SMRT Home Study Program

Beginning in 2013, all future SMRT home studies will be electronic-only. The cost of printing and mailing has become excessive especially for a worldwide section as the SMRT. With this reduction in costs, we are investigating offerings of additional member benefits. All previously printed and mailed home studies since 1998 are currently available and accredited either at the website electronically or for purchase as listed in the back of most home studies. Together with the SMRT video home studies also available at the website, we hope we are meeting the educational needs of our members. Feedback is always greatly appreciated for directions you would like to see the SMRT go in the future to provide additional educational member benefits.
