New Zealand National Chapter

Located in the South Pacific, the New Zealand National Chapter (NZNC) is thriving. The NZNC was created in 2020 after the split of the Australian and New Zealand joint chapters (ANZ), with the focus to promote membership and educational opportunities within New Zealand’s MR Technologist community.

The New Zealand National Chapter committee meets 4 times per year; 3 on-line meetings and one face-to-face meeting prior to either the NZNC annual meeting or the joint ANZ meeting. During the face-to-face meeting, strategies for the year are laid out with a timeline of when to achieve these. Most appointments to the NZNC committee are a 3-year term, with the 3rd year aimed at mentoring the newly appointed positions. NZNC President is a 4-year term; 1st year as President elect, two years as President and the final as past President.

The NZ National Chapter has a very strong bond with the Australian National Chapter and the two chapters work closer together to provide world class education in the ANZ region, running a joint Chapters meeting each November which also hosts the sort after Battle of Divisions Competition.

Chapter Meetings:

It has been a challenging 4 years navigating the COVID area but in that time NZNC has managed to hold 3 Annual Meetings in various locations throughout the country.

1st NZNC meeting: 20th March 2021, Mercure Queenstown Resort, Queenstown

Topics included MSK, Paediatric neuroradiology, Portable MRI, Safety, Techniques and Accreditation. The five 10-minute Technologist talks were introduced with great popularity and a wide variety of cases. They are designed to encourage MRI Technologists who find a 20–30- minute presentation too daunting, but wish to provide more information than the rapid battle-of-divisions style of presentation.

2nd NZNC meeting: 30th July 2022, Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand, Wellington

Topics included Abdominal, Breast, Cardiac, MSK, Radiation therapy, accreditation and Health and disability. Five 10-minute Technologist talks were again included.

3rd NZCZ meeting: 20th April 2024, Te Pae Convention Centre Christchurch

Topics included Magic Angle Directional Imaging and Contrast Mechanisms in MSK Disease, B1+RMS, Privacy law, Pelvis, A Story of Hope, Breast, Acute Ischaemic Stroke, Forensic Imaging, Concussion and ISMRT Future Leaders Programme and the 10-minute MR Technologist talks

Divisions:

There are two Divisions in the NZNC, North Island and South Island. Both very active hosting in-person and virtual meetings.
